Bone Salad Tongs-Mwiko

These are wooden cooking/ serving spoons (called a mwiko in Kenya) that were hand carved by one of our suppliers, in Kenya. They have some weight to them (0.73 lbs). This set is 100% biodegradable and the ends are made of hand carved cattle bone. Cattle were a form of wealth (currency) in The Swahili Empire. To this day, if you slaughter one, you must use up the entire animal. We use the bones and horns to make jewelry and embellish products like our cooking/ serving spoons. They will easily blend into your kitchen aesthetic and contribute to endless dishes for no less than 15 years. You can do more than serve salad with them. Do not be afraid to cook or serve more than salad with them. Make them yours today or gift them to a loved one. Measurements: 14" long and 4" at the widest point (the scoop area of the spoon) and the handle is 1" thick. The mwikos are a mix of black and brown tones.
