African Tribal Mask

This mask was handcrafted in East Africa (Jumuiya). The mask captures the essence of Jumuiya communities given that, except for the beads, the mask is100% biodegradable, truly hand carved and painted, plus a minimalistic essence was used to create this statement piece. The embellishments on the mask are made from nails and tribal seed beads. We are minimalistic when it comes to our creations and designs. People use what is available to create art as opposed to sourcing grand materials that might not necessarily be eco friendly. The back area has a little piece of slitted leather to mount it on the wall. At the end of the day, this piece can literally be tossed on the ground and it will break down and return to dust. A lot of our pieces are made from teak wood. It also is not glazed in any type of chemical. If preferred, this mask can be mounted on a frame or simply hung as is. This piece was purchased directly from artisan traders in order to impact Jumuiya and generate dignified sources of income for those in the arts.
